Understanding Poverty
A multimedia presentation of the story behind poverty

Did you know that some people in the Twin Cities need to win a lottery in order to have the "privilege" of sleeping on a mat on the floor of a homeless shelter?

See and hear why this is happening in our community by participating in Catholic Charities' Understanding Poverty Program.

Understanding Poverty informs participants about the reality of poverty and analyzes the root causes and long-term solutions.

Why should I attend?

  • To better understand the scope of poverty in the Twin Cities, Minnesota, and the nation.
  • To better understand the actions of people who live in poverty and examine stereotypes such as "Why don't they just get a job?"
  • To become more aware of the economic structures and policies that prevent people from becoming self-sufficient.
  • To learn about the serious consequences for each of us and for our communities if we do not seek an end to poverty

What's the content?

The dynamic and interactive Understanding Poverty presentation explores the facts of poverty, the causes and the solutions.

This multimedia program includes eye-opening information, video clips and group discussion.

Participants will discuss specific steps they can take to become effective agents for change in the struggle against poverty.

Minimum audience size - 30
Presentation fee - $200
(fee is negotiable if it is a significant burden)
